Directorate of Clinical Support

This directorate is responsible for the provision of Clinical Support Services in the institute and is headed by a Director. The directorate is specifically responsible for the following functions: Formulating policies and regulations relating to clinical support services, Ensuring that clinical support services and quality guidelines are developed, approved and implemented efficiently, Coordinating the implementation of policies and operational programs on approved plans and targets, Monitoring performance of the directorate and initiating necessary interventions to improve services, and Facilitating and guiding Public Private Partnership (PPP). In performing the mentioned functions, the directorate is organized into three sections viz. Cardiovascular Radiology, Clinical Laboratory and Pathology, and Pharmacy.
Cardiovascular Radiology
The section is responsible for x-ray and diagnostic imaging services in the institute and is headed by a Medical Specialist. Specifically, it is aimed to oversee the following: to take care of all emergency services, to provide support to students and researchers from associated training or research institutions, to support and uphold ethics and governance, to develop and implement standardized policies and procedures and to ensure their regular update, to coordinate training programs, and to endure that clinical guidelines including Radiological and Imaging guidelines are developed and implemented
Clinical Laboratory and Pathology
This section is also led by a medical specialist and is responsible for testing and processing all samples from the clinical sections and units in the institute. It is therefore concerned with: operations of the clinical laboratory and pathology. Analysis of all the results required on an emergency basis, services to external customers as a way of generation of additional income, support to students and researchers from associated training or research institutions, support and uphold emphasis on ethics and governance, develop and implement standardized policies and procedures, endures that laboratory guidelines including prescribing guidelines are developed and implemented, and Coordinates training programs.
Pharmacy
The main function of this section is to provide pharmaceutical services. Led by a Clinical Pharmacist, the specific functions include: operations of the pharmacy, supporting students and researchers from associated training and research institutions, supporting and upholding ethics and governance, developing and implementing standardized policies and procedures and ensuring their regular update, ensuring that clinical guidelines including prescribing guidelines are developed and implemented, and coordinating training programs. In pursuing the detailed functions, the directorate experiences both strengths and weaknesses.
