Directorate of Cardiology

The directorate is particularly aimed to provide cardiology services in the institute. Specifically, it does the following functions: To formulate policies and regulations relating to cardiology services; To coordinate all invasive and non-invasive procedures in cardiology; To facilitate and guide Intramural Private Practice (IPPM) in the directorate; To develop and implement cardiology guidelines; and To coordinate continuing cardiology education programs. The mentioned functions are conducted in three sections: Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, and Adult Cardiology.
Pediatric Cardiology
Under a Medical Specialist, the section is responsible for provision of pediatric cardiology services. In so doing its main functions are specifically the following: Overseeing Pediatric Cardiology operations, running of Pediatric Cardiology clinics, handling all emergency cases, supporting students and researchers from associated training or research institutions, supporting and upholding ethics and governance, developing and implementing standardized policies and procedures, developing and implementing clinical guidelines, and coordinating appropriate training programs and shift rotations for all immediate staff and other internal areas as appropriate.
Cardiovascular Rehabilitation
This section is responsible for cardiovascular rehabilitation of patients and is headed by a therapist. Specifically, it oversees the following; preparing and implementing a cardiovascular rehabilitation policy, interpreting the cardiovascular rehabilitation policy, cardiovascular rehabilitation, providing support to students and researchers from associated training or research institutions, supporting and upholding ethics and governance, developing and implementing standardized policies and procedures, ensuring that clinical guidelines are developed and implemented, and coordinating appropriate training programs and shift rotas for all immediate staff and other internal areas as appropriate.
Adult Cardiology
The adult cardiovascular section is responsible for the provision of adult cardiology. More specifically, the section is set for the following functions: operations of the Adult Cardiology, running of Adult Cardiology clinics, handling all emergency cases, providing support to students and researchers from associated training or research institutions, supporting and upholding ethics and governance, developing and implementing standardized policies and procedures, developing and implementing Clinical Guidelines, coordinating appropriate training programs and shift rotas for all immediate staff and other internal areas as appropriate. After a thorough look at the Directorate and the sections in this area, both strengths and weaknesses were identified.
